The new track, which comes straight off his new Scary Hours two-song EP, reportedly garnered over 14 million plays worldwide on its first day, according to Zane Lowe. There’s no word on whose track previously held the title, but many are guessing it could have been Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do,” considering she reached the feat on Spotify previously.
This is the second record that “God’s Plan” has broken, as the More Life rapper’s song also broke Spotify’s U.S. record for most single-day streams, beating out T-Swift. This doesn’t seem too surprising, considering that Drake was Spotify’s most streamed artist back in 2016.
Scary Hours dropped last Friday (Jan. 19), which featured “God’s Plan,” as well as another track called “Diplomatic Immunity.” While fans are enjoying the spontaneous new material from the Toronto hitmaker, Texas producer Rabit believes that Drake jacked his 2015 Communion Tour poster for the EP’s artwork. So far, the rapper has yet to respond to the allegations against him and the artwork.
