There were several components that made the show stand out and gave the audience members a bang for their buck.
1. The Visuals
Basketmouth and his sponsors really went above and beyond to get world class visuals and graphics for the show. From the pyrotechnics to the crispy clear LED screen, the show oozed of quality.
2. They Started On Time!…Kinda
The show officially started almost an hour later than it was supposed to but if you were on your chair at the time on the posters, there was something to keep you entertained. Comedian, Buchi was on stage at the ordained time and did a great job stalling as the show’s crew got themselves together.
3. Pop Culture Updated
From ‘Man’s Not Hot’ to ‘One Corner’ to ‘Bobrisky’, Basket and his comic friends proved that they were in the know. The introduction montage of the show featured Micheal Dappah’s ‘The Ting Go’ and the various performances throughout the night cracked jokes about recent happenings on the media scene and made us laugh even harder.
4. The Rise and Rise of IG Comics
IG comics, Josh2Funny and SLK, really held their own on the stage. They performed early in the night and when they hit the stage the fans were beyond overjoyed. It was really great to see how they carried the crowd along and gave new life to their viral comic videos.
5. Those Funny-as-Hell Foreign Acts!
Shoutout to Basketmouth to finding the funniest international acts out there and bringing them home. From the South African Angel Campey to America’s own D’Lai, the acts all had varying backgrounds. What was great about them was that they were not only able to communicate with the audience, they were also able to make jokes out of everyday Nigerian lifestyle. They did their homework and they were truly brilliant.
6. Surprise! Surprise!
Basketmouth surprised the audience two times during the course of the show. The first was when he brought out Dammy Krane and the second was when he brought out 2Baba himself. Both performances had the audience on their feet and jamming along the entire time.
7. Man Like Basket
Although he didn’t host the first half of the show, when he hit that stage for the second half, no one wanted him to leave. His compering and comic skills have hit a new level of flawless where you feel like he’s just having a conversation with you as opposed to hosting a show. And what a funny conversation it was!
The sold out show was a success through and through and we can’t wait to see what more Basketmouth has up his sleeves in the coming future.
